Privacy Policy

Information you provide

• Account information such as email, display name, password credentials stored as secure password hashes, and privacy preferences.
• Optional job-seeker preferences, saved jobs, private notes, personal job status, saved searches, target markets, and Recently Viewed history.
• Optional Home locations, including a label and—when you choose to use distance features—precise coordinates. Home data is private to your account.
• Employer/company profile information and job content submitted by authorized employer-team members.
• Venture information you submit, such as a Venture name, type, stage, description, website, location, Open To selections, and We’re Hiring status. Venture owner/member relationships and Watch / Save state are tied to authenticated accounts.
• Venture claim and verification submissions may include a selected verification method and evidence notes. Ownership disputes/transfers, reports, and impersonation cases may include account identifiers, contact details, explanations, evidence notes, evidence URLs, decision notes, and related administrative records.
• Recruiter prospect notes, tags, statuses, and saved Hiring Intelligence searches inside the authenticated intelligence workspace.

How Home-location data is used

Exact Home addresses and coordinates are used only for private job-seeker features such as radius, commute, relocation, map recentering, Compare, and—when Ventures and the applicable return features are enabled—nearby Venture discovery and consented Venture return signals. Employers, Venture owners, recruiters, other users, public pages, SEO pages, and general business analytics do not receive your exact Home location.

• You can edit or delete a Home at any time.
• You may clear the Home location label while retaining a coordinate if you prefer to minimize stored address text.
• Account deletion removes private Home records through the account-data deletion process.

Ventures: public and private information

Ventures are feature-controlled and are not represented by this policy as broadly launched while the Ventures service remains disabled. When Ventures is enabled and a Venture is published, information intended for the Venture profile or map can be publicly displayed and may also be included in public SEO pages, sitemaps, structured data, and other supported machine-discovery surfaces.

• Public Venture information can include the Venture name, slug, type, stage, description, website, displayed location and map coordinates, Open To selections, verification status, We’re Hiring status, claimability state, Pioneer position/market, and connected public Jobs. Related public Career Hub or Employer information may also appear where an active relationship exists.
• Published, non-archived Venture profiles and supported geographic Venture pages may be exposed through public sitemap and schema.org/structured-data systems so search engines or other machine consumers can discover public Venture information.
• Account identity, owner/member relationship records, Watch / Save state, and internal ownership-management records are not published merely because a Venture profile is public.
• Claim and verification evidence is private to the claimant/owner and authorized review workflows; evidence notes are not part of the public Venture profile.
• Reports, impersonation evidence, dispute/transfer records, moderation records, and administrative audit history are private operational records used for safety, ownership integrity, review, and accountability.
• Discovery-created Ventures can carry private discovery provenance such as source references or URLs, validation, duplicate/confidence review, review decisions, and conversion records. Those internal provenance records are separate from the public Venture profile.

Venture activity, referrals, visibility, and Return Engine

Barber Career Map records Venture-related product activity needed to operate, secure, measure, and improve the feature. This can include Venture creation, profile views, claim and verification activity, sharing, Explore My Area and map interactions, Open To and We’re Hiring changes, and other supported Venture interactions.

• Venture analytics may reference a Venture, an authenticated user when identifiable analytics are allowed, an anonymous session, time, source surface, route, traffic classification, and limited interaction metadata. Existing privacy preferences for identifiable product analytics apply consistently to Venture analytics.
• Contribution events and resulting Visibility state can record qualifying owner actions, event type, references used for duplicate/anti-gaming controls, and whether an event is credit-eligible. Paid status does not replace the organic Contribution / Visibility model.
• Referral links and attribution records can connect a referring Venture/owner, referral identifier, landing, referred user, and referred Venture when a referral converts. Self-referral and duplicate protections are part of that workflow.
• Watch / Save records are private to the signed-in user. They may also establish the baseline used to detect relevant changes to watched Ventures.
• For users who have separately consented to return emails, BCM can use private Home location, Watch state, Venture stage/Open To state, and Venture location to generate Venture return signals such as a newly published nearby Venture or a relevant change to a watched Venture. Return email consent can be disabled through the existing Profile or unsubscribe controls.

Job activity and analytics

Barber Career Map records product activity needed to operate, secure, measure, and improve the service. An Apply Click means a user followed an external Apply destination; it does not mean an application was completed, an interview occurred, or a person was hired.

• Optional identifiable product analytics can be turned off in Profile. When disabled, nonessential analytics are de-identified rather than tied to your account.
• Authentication, fraud/security, rate-limiting, payments, refunds, and other essential system activity may still retain the account relationship needed to operate safely.
• Marketing email, useful job-opportunity return emails, and employer/recruiter outreach are separate opt-in preferences and default off. Existing users are not enrolled automatically; job-opportunity emails can be disabled in Profile or through the unsubscribe control included with each message.

Service providers

• Floot-managed infrastructure and PostgreSQL database hosting for the application and account data.
• Mapbox for the public map/globe and, when enabled, server-side commute routing.
• Resend for transactional password-reset email when configured and enabled.
• Stripe for Checkout, subscriptions, refunds, receipts, and payment-related identifiers. Barber Career Map does not store full payment-card details.
• Job-data sources may include employer-created jobs, Greenhouse, Lever, Ashby, Workable, USAJOBS, Jobicy, Remotive, and—only inside the authenticated Hiring Intelligence product when enabled—TheirStack.

Cookies and local storage

The current product uses essential session/authentication technology and browser storage for product state such as onboarding or map-session context. Barber Career Map does not currently install a third-party advertising network or third-party behavioral advertising tracker. The consent architecture is designed to support additional regional requirements if those practices change.

Retention, export, and deletion

Retention is category-specific rather than a single keep-everything-forever rule. Job history and anonymized/aggregated business intelligence may be retained longer when source rules and applicable law permit; raw analytics and security logs have separate configurable retention windows; provider data follows provider-specific restrictions. This policy does not promise a fixed Venture retention period.

• Profile includes controls to clear recent views, saved jobs/notes, saved searches, Compare, and identifiable search history.
• The current Download My Data export includes account/profile information, Homes, saved-job data, saved searches, target markets, recent views, Compare, and retention-email preference history. It does not currently include the separate Venture ownership, claim, verification, report, impersonation, moderation, discovery-provenance, audit, referral, Contribution, or Venture billing records.
• Account deletion uses BCM’s existing account-deletion process. This policy does not promise that every Venture, provenance, moderation, audit, ownership-review, or transaction record is deleted solely because an account is deleted.

Public and employer information

Employer-created company profiles, published jobs, and public Career Hub information are intended for public display. When Ventures is enabled, published Venture profile/map information is also intended for public display as described above. Career Hub ownership-verification evidence, Venture claim/verification evidence, reports and impersonation evidence, billing records, private admin contact data, employer or Venture audit notes, recruiter notes, Watch / Save state, and job-seeker private data are not published.

Venture billing and entitlements

BCM includes Venture-scoped billing and entitlement infrastructure for Venture Plus. Records can include a Venture identifier, product/price version, purchase or subscription status, Stripe-related payment identifiers, test/live mode, entitlement keys, dates, and related transaction metadata. Stripe processes payment-card information; BCM does not store full payment-card details.

• Venture Plus has a LIVE Stripe product/price mapping for its launch configuration, but customer access to checkout remains subject to Venture feature controls and checkout availability.
• A Venture Plus subscription is scoped to one Venture and does not grant ownership or benefits to another Venture.
