Privacy Policy
Last Updated: August 23, 2026
This is an initial pre-launch draft. It has not been reviewed or approved by an attorney.
This policy describes what Barber Career Map collects, where it is kept, and how it is used. We aim to keep the sensitive parts of your job search, especially your exact Home location, on your own device rather than in your account.
Information stored in your account
- Account details: your first name, email address, a securely hashed version of your password (we never store the password itself), your plan tier, and when the account was created.
- Career profile: desired job titles, minimum salary, maximum commute preference, preferred work style, employment type, target markets, and an optional broad home market (a city or area name, never a street address).
- Activity: jobs you save, commute usage counts and the dates of your current usage period, and the versions and date of the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy you accepted.
- Sessions and security: signed session cookies keep you logged in, and standard server logs may record technical details such as IP address and request information for security and troubleshooting.
Information kept on your device
- Your exact Home location (the address or place you choose, its coordinates, and its place reference) is stored only in your browser, not in your Barber Career Map account.
- Jobs saved while browsing as a guest, guest preview counters, and your display preferences.
- Commute results calculated during your current session are kept in memory only and are discarded when you leave.
Keeping data on your device means it is not written to our servers. It does not mean the data never reaches any third-party service: to calculate maps, place search, and commutes, some location information is sent to Google Maps, as described below.
Google Maps Platform
Barber Career Map uses Google Maps Platform for maps, place search, and commute calculations. When you use these features, information such as your search terms, your IP address and device information, and the locations involved in a request (including your Home coordinates and job coordinates when a commute is calculated) may be sent to Google. Google's handling of this information is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
Job data providers
Job listings are supplied by TheirStack, a licensed job data provider. To fetch listings, our servers send search criteria to the provider: role keywords you type into the role filter, the market (city or area) being searched, and any posted-date, work style, employment type, or minimum salary filters. These requests come from our servers, not your browser, and are not tied to your identity by the provider.
We never send the provider your name, email address, password, exact Home location, saved jobs, or usage history.
Payments
Payments for paid plans are processed by Stripe, a third-party payment processor. When you purchase a paid plan, the payment details you enter at checkout (such as your card number and billing information) are provided by you directly to Stripe on Stripe-hosted pages. Barber Career Map never receives or stores your full card number or security code.
To manage your plan, we store billing records in your account: a Stripe customer reference, a subscription reference where applicable, the plan you purchased, your billing status, the dates your paid access starts and ends, and the timestamps of successful payments. Stripe's handling of your payment information is described in the Stripe Privacy Policy.
Transactional email
Barber Career Map sends transactional emails, such as password reset emails, through Resend, a third-party email delivery service. To deliver these emails, Resend receives the recipient email address, the sender information, the content of the message, and technical delivery and security metadata. We do not use Resend to send marketing email, and we do not control Resend's own practices, which are described in the Resend Privacy Policy.
How we use information
- To provide the service: showing jobs, calculating commutes, saving jobs, and personalizing your profile.
- To operate your account: signing you in, enforcing plan limits, and keeping the service secure.
- To respond when you contact us.
We do not sell your personal information, we do not give recruiters or employers access to your account data, and we do not use your data for targeted advertising.
Who we share information with
- Hosting and database infrastructure that runs the service and stores account data.
- Authentication infrastructure that manages sign-in sessions.
- Google Maps Platform, for maps, place search, and commute calculations as described above.
- Our job data provider, which receives server-originated search criteria as described above.
- Stripe, our payment processor, which handles checkout and billing for paid plans as described above.
- Resend, our email delivery service, which delivers transactional emails as described above.
We do not share your information with other third parties.
How long we keep information
Account data is kept while your account exists. If you delete your account, your account record, career profile, and saved jobs are deleted. Data stored on your device stays there until it expires or you clear it, and you can remove your Home location at any time.
Your controls
- Edit or clear your career profile from the Profile page.
- Remove your Home location at any time.
- Remove saved jobs individually.
- Log out to end your session.
- Delete your account from the Profile page, which removes your account data as described above.
Cookies and local storage
Barber Career Map uses only essential cookies and local storage: session cookies that keep you signed in, and local storage that holds your device-local data described above. There are no advertising or third-party analytics trackers in the app.
Security
Passwords are stored using strong one-way hashing, and account data is transmitted over encrypted connections. No online service can promise perfect security, but we work to protect the data we hold.
Children
Barber Career Map is for people 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we will delete such information if we learn of it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make meaningful changes, we will update the date above and ask you to review and accept the new version the next time you use your account.
